"- A while ago, I learnt that voicing concerns or complaining about something is one thing, but to be positive, proactive & present is something else. Sadly, too many are content to remain within the comfort zone of the former without actively moving towards the benefits of the latter.
As most people are aware, the government & media launched a campaign to inspire the nation in their 'war' on Covid-19. As in all wars there are heroes, villains, casualties & the forgotten. Rightly so, the heroes are the NHS & other care workers, the villain & the casualties are self-explanatory, whereas the forgotten, well, have people even noticed?? It's been estimated that around 44% of nurses & about 14% of doctors within the NHS are African, Caribbean & Asian. I myself have one sister that's a nurse & another that trained as a nurse before becoming a midwife. As the comedian Gina Yashere pointed out, "In African & Asian families there are only four choices of career; doctor, lawyer, engineer, & family embarrassment." Yes, I'm well aware of the category I'm in, & yes I remember many "You're going to be a doctor or a lawyer" speeches from my dad growing up. So, when most of the british press featured photos of the 'heroes' of this new war on the front cover of their newspapers & I struggled to see one melaninated face, I thought, 'Hmmm... here we go again!' You see, many people berate Trump for his calling out the mainstream press on their 'fake news', whereas the mainstream press associates fake news as coming from right-wing & fringe factions. The reality is, the mainstream press has peddled fake news for decades - the aforementioned being just one example. When I was growing up, fake news had another name...
History! Enough said.
Truth be known, this thing is bigger than race, way bigger, & at times such as these we need to put our best foot forward & come with Humanity. That's what's going to save us, & that's also something we don't need any government to initiate, as it's in each & every one of us.
Stay True, Stay safe!! ADee
