Supper at Emmaus
After London went into their first lockdown, Lionel Stanhope decided to recreate Supper at Emmaus by Caravaggio, painted in 1601 and hanging in the National Gallery in London. He has stated in an interview that it was a project he always wanted to complete and decided lockdown was the perfect time to work on a painting so complex (compared to his other work). He updates the original painting subtly by giving Christ (in the center), blue surgical gloves to make it more indicative of the time when it was made.
